Industrial Spraying Bedfordshire
Project Overview:

Our team was contacted to restore a large steel portal frame in Bedford that had undergone tenant alterations. The frame had numerous brackets, fasteners, redundant pipework, and signage bolted and welded onto it, all of which needed to be removed before re-coating the frame in the new tenant’s corporate colours.

The Challenge

The project presented several challenges:

  • Removal of various fixings, brackets, and pipework attached to the steel frame.
  • Restoring the steel surface to its original condition after tenant alterations.
  • Applying a durable, long-lasting coating that would provide both aesthetic appeal and corrosion resistance.

Our Solution

To address these challenges, we implemented a structured and efficient approach:

  1. Removal of Alterations: Our team began by cutting away all the brackets, fasteners, and redundant pipework attached to the frame. The cut areas were then ground back flush to restore the steel to its original condition.
  2. Surface Preparation: The steel surfaces were thoroughly abraded and degreased to remove any contamination, including oil, dirt, and grease, ensuring a clean, keyed surface for optimal coating adhesion.

3. Application: We applied a fast-drying, one-component semi-gloss alkyd topcoat, which contained anti-corrosive pigments. This coating offered both an attractive finish and long-term protection against corrosion.
